Dr. Nava Kishore is a Senior Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) Surgeon visiting Vivekananda Hospital, Begumpet. He holds an MBBS, MS in General Surgery, and an MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology, the formal three-year super-specialty qualification recognised by the National Medical Commission. Few private surgeons in Hyderabad have a formal MCh Surgical Gastroenterology, since most "GI surgeons" in the city are general surgeons who developed an interest area rather than completing the dedicated super-specialty pathway.
His MCh training was completed at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, the Telangana state government's tertiary care institute and one of the highest-volume GI surgery programmes in South India. NIMS handles complex referred cases from across the state, which means his operative exposure during training included disease severity rarely seen in private hospital settings. He is no longer on NIMS faculty and is now in independent private practice, with Vivekananda Hospital being one of the centres where he consults and operates.
His clinical focus is on advanced laparoscopic surgery for the digestive system. The principle is straightforward: where a problem can be safely fixed through 3-4 small incisions instead of one large open incision, the patient recovers faster with less pain, less scarring and shorter hospital stay. The most common procedures performed at Vivekananda Hospital include laparoscopic gallbladder removal, laparoscopic and open hernia repair with mesh, appendicectomy, and minimally invasive proctology for piles and fistula using stapler or laser techniques.
His sub-specialty interest is HPB surgery and gastrointestinal cancer surgery. At Vivekananda Hospital, this includes evaluation and surgery for liver abscess, hydatid cyst, liver trauma, simple bile duct surgery, and selected cases of stomach and colorectal cancer. Major HPB surgery such as Whipples procedure, major liver resection, or pancreatic cancer surgery requires tertiary-care anaesthesia, ICU and blood bank infrastructure that is typically reserved for higher centres, where he coordinates the surgery while maintaining continuity of pre and post-operative care for the patient.
Surgery should be a solution, not a burden. I am committed to ethical, evidence-based care where advanced laparoscopy meets patient comfort for a faster, safer recovery.
