If you are searching for "laparoscopic surgery cost in Hyderabad," you have probably already noticed the problem: every hospital website shows you a vague range like "Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 2,00,000." That range is so wide it is practically useless. It tells you nothing about what your specific procedure will cost, what is included in the price, and whether the final bill will match the estimate you were given.

This page does something different. We show you the exact procedure-wise pricing for every common laparoscopic surgery performed at Vivekananda Hospital, Begumpet, broken down by room category (General Ward, Single Room, Single AC Room), with a clear list of what is included and what is not. No ranges. No "contact us for pricing." No surprises at discharge.

What is Laparoscopic Surgery and Why Does It Cost What It Costs

Laparoscopic surgery (also called keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery) is a modern surgical technique where the surgeon operates through 3 to 4 small incisions (each less than 1 centimetre) instead of one large open cut. A high-definition camera (laparoscope) is inserted through one incision, projecting a magnified view of the internal organs onto a 4K surgical monitor. Specialised instruments are inserted through the other incisions to perform the actual surgery.

The reason laparoscopic surgery exists is not to make surgeons look clever with tiny cuts. It exists because the outcomes are measurably better for patients: 80 percent less post-operative pain, 70 percent faster recovery, 1 to 2 days in hospital instead of 5 to 7 days, dramatically lower infection risk, and you return to work in days instead of weeks. The trade-off is that it requires specialised equipment, advanced training, and a surgeon who has performed hundreds of these procedures. That is what the cost reflects.

Traditional Open Surgery

6 to 8 inch incision through muscle. Heavy blood loss. 5 to 7 days hospitalisation. 4 to 6 weeks recovery. Visible scarring. High infection risk. Significant post-operative pain.

Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery

3 to 4 incisions, each under 1 cm. Minimal blood loss. 1 to 2 days hospitalisation. 3 to 14 days recovery. Nearly invisible scars. Low infection risk. 80% less post-operative pain.

Why our prices are lower: Vivekananda Hospital is a 100-bed family-run hospital, not a 350-bed corporate chain. Our overhead costs are lower. Our pricing reflects actual cost of care, not brand premium. Same surgical skill, same equipment, same clinical outcomes, but without the marble lobby markup.

What other hospitals charge extra for (but we do not): Consumables, surgical staples, gloves, drapes, post-operative dressings, discharge medicines, and follow-up visit. Procedure-by-Procedure Guide: When You Need It, How It is Done

Laparoscopic Gallbladder Removal (Cholecystectomy)

When you need it: Gallstones causing pain in the upper right abdomen (especially after oily or heavy meals), nausea, vomiting, or repeated gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis). If gallstones are found on ultrasound and you have symptoms, surgery is the definitive treatment. Medications do not dissolve gallstones permanently.

How it is done: 3 to 4 small incisions near the navel. CO2 gas inflates the abdomen for visibility. The gallbladder is identified, clipped at the cystic duct and artery, and removed through one of the small incisions. The entire procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Life after surgery: You do not need your gallbladder. The liver drips bile directly into the small intestine. Most patients eat normally within 2 to 3 days. No long-term dietary restrictions for most people.

Laparoscopic Hernia Repair

When you need it: A visible bulge in the groin (inguinal hernia), around the navel (umbilical hernia), or at a previous surgical site (incisional hernia) that becomes more prominent when standing, coughing, or straining. Pain or discomfort at the bulge site, especially during physical activity. Hernias do not heal on their own. They only get larger over time, and an untreated hernia can lead to strangulation, a surgical emergency.

How it is done: Three small incisions are made. The hernia contents (usually intestine or fatty tissue) are pushed back into place. A synthetic mesh is placed over the weakened area to reinforce the abdominal wall. The mesh prevents the hernia from coming back. Recurrence rate with mesh repair is less than 2 percent.

Starting FromRs. 55,000

Hospital Stay1-2 days

Laparoscopic Appendix Removal (Appendectomy)

When you need it: Acute appendicitis presenting as sudden pain starting around the navel and shifting to the lower right abdomen, fever, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. This is often an emergency. A ruptured appendix can cause peritonitis, a life-threatening abdominal infection. If you have these symptoms, go to the hospital immediately.

How it is done: Three small incisions. The inflamed appendix is identified, its blood supply is clipped, and it is cut and removed through one of the incisions in a specimen bag. The procedure takes 20 to 40 minutes. In emergency cases, our 24/7 OT means surgery can happen within hours of diagnosis.

Starting FromRs. 40,000
Surgery Time20-40 min
Hospital Stay1-2 days

Piles and Fissure: Laser Surgery

When you need it: Bleeding during bowel movements, pain while sitting, itching around the anus, a lump near the anus, mucus discharge, or a fissure (small tear) that has not healed with medicines and dietary changes after 6 to 8 weeks. Grade 3 and Grade 4 piles (haemorrhoids that protrude and do not go back on their own) typically require surgical treatment.

How it is done: Laser energy is used to shrink the haemorrhoidal tissue precisely without damaging surrounding healthy tissue. For fissures, a controlled lateral internal sphincterotomy may be performed. Minimal bleeding, minimal pain, and no large wound to heal.

Starting FromRs. 30,000
Procedure Time20-30 min

Back to Work3-5 days

Fistula Surgery (LIFT / Fistulectomy)

When you need it: A fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the anal canal and the skin near the anus. Symptoms include persistent discharge (pus or blood-tinged fluid) from a small opening near the anus, recurring perianal abscesses, pain and swelling. Fistulas do not heal with antibiotics alone. Surgical treatment is the only definitive cure.

How it is done: The LIFT technique (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract) preserves the sphincter muscles, protecting continence. The fistula tract is identified, ligated, and excised. For complex fistulas, a staged approach may be needed.

Starting FromRs. 35,000
Hospital Stay1 day
Back to Work1-2 weeks

Thyroid Surgery (Thyroidectomy)

When you need it: Thyroid nodules that are suspicious for cancer on FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology), large goitre causing compression symptoms (difficulty swallowing, breathing difficulty, hoarseness), or hyperthyroidism not controlled by medication. Your endocrinologist or surgeon will advise based on ultrasound findings and biopsy results.

How it is done: A small incision in the neck crease (cosmetically concealed). The thyroid gland (partial or complete) is carefully removed while preserving the parathyroid glands and recurrent laryngeal nerve. Intraoperative nerve monitoring may be used for complex cases.

Starting FromRs. 50,000
Surgery Time1-2 hours
Hospital Stay1-2 days

Varicose Veins: Laser Ablation (EVLT)

When you need it: Visible twisted, bulging veins on the legs, aching or heaviness in legs (worse after standing for long periods), skin discolouration around the ankles, swelling, or leg ulcers that are not healing. Varicose veins are not just a cosmetic issue. Left untreated, they can cause chronic venous insufficiency, skin changes, and non-healing ulcers.

How it is done: Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) involves inserting a thin laser fibre into the damaged vein through a needle puncture (no surgical incision). Laser energy seals the vein from inside. Blood reroutes to healthy veins automatically. The procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes and is done under local anaesthesia. You walk out the same day.
