Evening ENT OPD plus an uncommon sub-specialty: ENT-related migraine evaluation.

Dr. Abhinav Kiran holds a formal Certification Course in Migraine Diagnosis and Treatment alongside his MS Otorhinolaryngology. Few ENTs in Hyderabad train specifically in migraine evaluation. For patients with sinus-triggered or inner-ear-related migraine symptoms, this combined ENT + migraine expertise is genuinely rare.

Evening slot suits working professionals, school/college patients, and post-office consultations. Slot is 1 hour long so advance booking is strongly recommended. About

Evening ENT OPD for common ear, nose, throat and migraine concerns

Dr. Abhinav Kiran is a Visiting Consultant ENT Specialist at Vivekananda Hospital, Begumpet. He holds an MBBS and MS Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) with an additional Certification Course in Migraine Diagnosis and Treatment. With 10+ years of ENT specialist practice, his OPD at Vivekananda focuses on common ear, nose and throat conditions, standard sinus and ear surgeries, and ENT-related migraine evaluation.

His evening OPD (5:30 PM - 6:30 PM) is structured for working professionals, students, and patients who cannot attend morning OPD. Common presentations include ear pain, hearing concerns, wax removal, chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction, allergic rhinitis, recurrent tonsillitis in adults, sleep-related snoring, and voice changes. Most of these are managed in OPD with medical therapy, diagnostic investigations, or scheduled day-care procedures where needed.

The migraine certification differentiates his practice. ENT-related migraine is an under-recognised sub-category of headache disorders. Sinogenic migraine (triggered by sinus pathology), vestibular migraine (inner-ear related), and migraine associated with temporomandibular joint dysfunction often get misdiagnosed. A structured ENT-migraine workup looks for these specific triggers alongside standard neurological assessment. Patients with persistent headache and ENT symptoms benefit from this combined evaluation.

For complex head-neck surgery, thyroidectomy, and head-neck malignancy cases, the senior ENT at Vivekananda is Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu, AIIMS and NIMS trained with over 35 years of experience. This dual ENT availability at the hospital means patients get routine ENT care during evening hours from Dr. Abhinav Kiran, and complex head-neck surgery when needed from the senior ENT team.

A lot of ENT problems don't need surgery. They need an accurate diagnosis, the right medication or simple procedure, and time for healing. When surgery is genuinely required, the decision should come after trying conservative management that has a fair chance of working. That's the approach I take with every patient.

Patient Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I book an appointment with Dr. Abhinav Kiran?
Call +91 72079 04418 or WhatsApp the same number. OPD is Monday to Saturday, 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM (evening only). The slot is 1 hour long, so advance booking is recommended. For morning OPD, Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu (Senior ENT) is also available at Vivekananda.
How is he different from Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu at the hospital?
Dr. Abhinav Kiran runs the evening ENT OPD (5:30-6:30 PM) and focuses on general ENT, sinus surgery, ear surgery, sleep and snoring, vertigo, and ENT-related migraine. Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu is the Senior ENT Surgeon (AIIMS and NIMS trained, 35+ years) who handles morning OPD and complex head-neck surgery, thyroidectomy, and head-neck cancer cases. Choose based on timing and condition.
What is ENT-related migraine and how is it different from regular migraine?
ENT-related migraine refers to headaches with specific ENT triggers or overlap. Sinogenic migraine is triggered by sinus disease; treating the sinus pathology reduces migraine frequency. Vestibular migraine has inner-ear involvement with dizziness; needs distinct treatment from standard migraine. TMJ-related headache comes from jaw joint dysfunction. Regular migraine workup by a neurologist doesn't always catch these ENT contributors. Dr. Abhinav Kiran's migraine certification provides this overlap evaluation.
When does a deviated nasal septum need surgery?
Deviated Nasal Septum (DNS) needs surgery (septoplasty) when it causes significant nasal obstruction, recurrent sinus infections, chronic breathing difficulty, snoring with sleep apnoea, or repeated headaches from blocked sinuses. Mild asymptomatic DNS does not need surgery. Surgery is usually day-care or 1-night admission, done under general anaesthesia, with recovery in 1-2 weeks.
What is Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)?
FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) is the modern minimally invasive approach to chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. Using a small endoscope through the nostril (no external cuts), blocked sinus openings are cleared, polyps are removed, and sinus drainage is restored. Recovery is faster than traditional sinus surgery, with most patients back to office work within 5-7 days. Indicated when medical therapy has failed for persistent sinusitis.
Should my child get a tonsillectomy?
Tonsillectomy is indicated for recurrent severe tonsillitis (7+ episodes in 1 year, 5+ episodes/year for 2 years, or 3+ episodes/year for 3 years), sleep apnoea with large tonsils, peritonsillar abscess, or suspicious unilateral enlargement. Simple sore throats do not need surgery. Modern tonsillectomy uses coblation or electrocautery techniques with faster recovery than older cold-knife methods.
I snore badly. Do I need surgery?
Not necessarily. Snoring evaluation starts with identifying if it is simple snoring or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). OSA needs sleep study confirmation (polysomnography). Treatment options include weight loss, lifestyle changes, CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), oral appliances, or surgery depending on severity and site of obstruction. Surgery (septoplasty, UPPP, radiofrequency) is considered when non-surgical options fail or are not tolerated.
What causes recurrent vertigo?
Common causes include BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, from dislodged inner-ear crystals), Meniere's disease (fluid pressure in inner ear), vestibular neuritis (inner ear nerve inflammation), vestibular migraine, and cervical spine issues. BPPV responds rapidly to Epley manoeuvre in clinic. Meniere's needs medical management. Persistent vertigo needs detailed workup including audiometry and sometimes MRI. Dr. Abhinav Kiran evaluates the full picture.
Is surgery done at Vivekananda Hospital or elsewhere?
Standard ENT surgeries (septoplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery, tympanoplasty, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy) are performed at Vivekananda Hospital, which has the ENT surgical infrastructure and anaesthesia support needed. Complex head-neck surgery, major thyroidectomy, and head-neck cancer surgery are handled by Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu (Senior ENT) with his dedicated setup.
Are ENT surgeries covered by insurance?
Yes. Vivekananda Hospital is empanelled with CGHS, ESI, Aarogyasri, Arogyabhadratha and 25+ private insurers. Septoplasty, FESS, tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy, tonsillectomy and standard ENT surgeries are typically covered. Some cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures are not covered. Bring policy documents for cashless eligibility confirmation before admission.
