About

Dermatologist combining clinical, aesthetic and hair transplant practice

Dr. Sai Prasanth Neti is a Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetologist and Hair Transplant Surgeon at Vivekananda Hospital, Begumpet. He holds an MBBS and an MD in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology (DVL) from Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences, with over 12 years of clinical experience. He is a member of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) and the Federation of Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgeons (FADS).

His practice covers three distinct areas that are usually offered separately by different practitioners. Clinical dermatology covers diseases of the skin, hair and nails (psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, fungal infections, autoimmune conditions). Aesthetic dermatology covers cosmetic procedures (lasers, chemical peels, Botulinum toxin, fillers, treatment of acne scars and pigmentation). Hair transplant surgery covers FUE and FUT techniques for genetic and post-traumatic hair loss. Combining these in one practitioner means a patient with both a chronic skin condition and an aesthetic concern can be managed by one consultant with one consistent treatment plan.

His sub-specialty interests at Vivekananda Hospital include vitiligo surgery and nail surgery. Vitiligo (white patches) is treated medically as the first step. For stable vitiligo that has not progressed for 12 months, surgical techniques such as melanocyte transplantation and skin grafting can restore pigment to white patches. Nail surgery includes nail avulsion with chemical matricectomy (Phenol) for recurrent ingrown toenails, which is a permanent solution that prevents the nail from regrowing into the flesh. These are niche procedures that most general dermatologists in Hyderabad do not perform.

His clinical approach emphasises identifying underlying causes rather than treating symptoms alone. For chronic acne, this means evaluating hormones, diet, gut health and skincare routine before prescribing topical treatments. For hair loss, it means investigating thyroid, vitamin levels (B12, D, ferritin) and androgen status before recommending PRP or transplant. For chronic eczema, it means identifying environmental and dietary triggers. This investigative approach takes longer than writing a prescription but typically produces more durable results.

Your skin is a reflection of your overall health. Whether it is treating a chronic condition or enhancing your natural beauty, my approach is rooted in medical science and safety.

Patient Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I book an appointment with Dr. Prasanth?
Call +91 72079 04418 or WhatsApp the same number. Routine dermatology, hair and cosmetic consultations are by appointment. For genuine dermatology emergencies (severe drug reactions, SJS, widespread rash with fever), come directly to the Vivekananda Hospital emergency department or call ahead.
What is the difference between a beautician and a dermatologist?
A beautician works on the surface of the skin with cosmetic products. A dermatologist is a qualified medical doctor (MBBS plus MD in Dermatology) who diagnoses and treats diseases of the skin, hair and nails, and is licensed to use prescription medications, medical-grade lasers, surgical procedures and chemical peels. For chronic conditions like acne, pigmentation, hair loss or recurrent rashes, dermatologist consultation gives more durable results than salon treatments.
Is laser hair removal safe for Indian skin?
Yes, when the right laser is used. Indian skin (Fitzpatrick types IV and V) requires longer wavelength lasers such as Diode or Nd:YAG, which target the hair follicle without damaging surrounding pigmented skin. The older Alexandrite and IPL devices commonly found in budget salons are not safe for Indian skin and can cause burns, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. Most patients see significant reduction after 6-8 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Is PRP effective for hair loss?
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy uses concentrated growth factors from your own blood, injected into the scalp to stimulate hair follicles. It is most effective in early-stage hair loss before complete follicle miniaturisation. Results are visible after 4-6 sessions spaced one month apart, with maintenance sessions every 6 months. PRP works better when combined with treatment of underlying causes such as iron deficiency, thyroid imbalance or androgen excess.
Can vitiligo (white patches) be cured?
Vitiligo cannot be permanently cured, but it can be effectively managed. The first-line treatment is medical with topical immunomodulators, phototherapy (NB-UVB), and oral immune-modifying medications. For stable vitiligo (no new patches and no spread for 12 months), Dr. Prasanth offers surgical options including skin grafting, suction blister grafting and melanocyte transplantation. These restore pigment to white patches in selected cases.
I have a painful ingrown toenail. Do I need surgery?
Recurrent ingrown toenails often respond best to a definitive procedure called nail avulsion with chemical matricectomy. Dr. Prasanth removes the problematic nail edge under local anaesthesia and applies phenol to the nail matrix to prevent regrowth into the flesh. This gives a permanent solution and is done as a day-care procedure. Conservative measures (proper nail cutting, footwear changes) are tried first for first-episode cases.
How soon can I see results from acne treatment?
Acne treatment requires 4 to 6 weeks for visible improvement and 3 to 6 months for full resolution. The protocol typically combines topical treatments, oral medications (antibiotics or hormonal therapy where indicated), and chemical peels. For severe cystic acne, oral isotretinoin may be needed. Discontinuing treatment too early is the most common reason for relapse. Dr. Prasanth also addresses underlying contributors like hormonal imbalance, gut health and skincare routine.
Is hair transplant permanent?
Yes. Hair transplant moves follicles from the back of the scalp (which are genetically resistant to balding) to the bald areas. Once transplanted, these follicles retain their original genetic resistance and continue to grow for life. Initial shedding occurs 2-3 weeks after the procedure, with new growth visible from month 3-4 and full results at 9-12 months. Existing native hair may continue to thin over time, which may need additional medical management.
Do you treat children with skin allergies and eczema?
Yes. Pediatric dermatology is part of Dr. Prasanth's practice. Atopic dermatitis (childhood eczema), diaper rashes, fungal infections, allergic conditions and birthmarks are managed with age-appropriate treatments. Children require gentler protocols than adults, and parents are counselled on bathing, moisturising and trigger avoidance routines that are often as important as medication.
Are cosmetic treatments covered by insurance?
Generally no. Medical insurance covers skin diseases and conditions (psoriasis, severe drug reactions, infections, vitiligo medical management). Cosmetic procedures (laser hair removal, chemical peels, Botox, dermal fillers, hair transplant) are typically excluded as elective. For cashless eligibility on disease treatment, Vivekananda Hospital is empanelled with CGHS, ESI, Aarogyasri, Arogyabhadratha and 25+ private insurers. Confirm specific coverage before treatment.
What should I bring for my first consultation?
Bring photographs of the skin or hair condition (especially if it varies day to day), a list of current and recent medications, any previous prescriptions or biopsy reports, and details of skincare and hair care products you currently use. For hair loss, recent blood reports (CBC, thyroid, vitamin D, B12, ferritin) are helpful. For acne, photos taken in good lighting from multiple angles help track progress over treatment.
