ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Department at Vivekananda Hospital, Begumpet

An ear that has been discharging for months. A nose that stays blocked no matter what spray you use. A throat infection that keeps returning every few weeks. A child who breathes through the mouth and snores at night. These are the kinds of problems people put up with for too long before seeing an ENT specialist. At Vivekananda Hospital, the ENT department is led by Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu, who trained in ENT surgery at AIIMS New Delhi and later served as Assistant Professor there. He is one of the most experienced ENT surgeons in Hyderabad, with over 25 years as a specialist. Dr. Abhinav Kiran works alongside him, handling consultations and surgeries six days a week. Both doctors are available in morning and evening OPD slots, and we have all ENT diagnostic and surgical equipment on site.

ENT at Vivekananda Hospital

ENT problems are among the most common reasons people visit a hospital, but they are also among the most commonly mismanaged. Patients take antibiotics for sinus infections that turn out to be allergic, use ear drops for a perforated eardrum that actually needs surgery, or ignore a hoarse voice for months when it could be a vocal cord problem that needs early intervention. The ENT department at Vivekananda Hospital exists to give patients in Begumpet and the surrounding areas access to specialist-level ear, nose, throat, and head-neck care without travelling to a large corporate hospital.

Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu is the senior ENT surgeon here. He completed his MS in ENT at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, which is the top medical institution in the country. After finishing his training, he stayed on at AIIMS as Assistant Professor, teaching and operating on complex cases. He later worked as a consultant at NIMS Hyderabad, LVP Eye Hospital, Rainbow Children's Hospital, and Yashoda Hospitals Somajiguda before setting up his practice at Vivekananda Hospital. His areas of deep expertise include micro ear surgery (operations on the tiny bones and membranes inside the ear using a microscope), functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), phonosurgery (surgery on the vocal cords), airway surgery for tracheal and laryngeal problems, and skull base surgery. He also performs endoscopic DCR for blocked tear ducts and transnasal procedures for certain orbital and optic nerve problems.

Dr. Abhinav Kiran is the second ENT surgeon in the department. He has an MBBS and MS in ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, is a member of the Association of Otorhinolaryngologists of India (AOI), and has certification in migraine diagnosis and treatment. He is comfortable performing septoplasty, FESS, mastoidectomy, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, tympanoplasty, tracheostomy, and thyroidectomy. Having two ENT surgeons means the department can handle a higher patient volume, and there is always backup if one surgeon is in the OT while a new case walks in.

The department has all ENT diagnostic and surgical equipment on site. Patients can get their ears examined, have their nose scoped, get an audiometry test, and see the results, all in the same visit. If surgery is needed, it happens in the same hospital with the same surgeon who diagnosed the problem. There is no gap between diagnosis and treatment, which matters in ENT where conditions like ear drum perforations, nasal polyps, and enlarged tonsils often get worse while patients are waiting for a surgery date at a larger hospital.

ENT Consultation, Diagnostics, and Surgery

Ear Surgery and Treatment

Tympanoplasty (Ear Drum Repair)

A perforated ear drum causes hearing loss, repeated infections, and ear discharge. Tympanoplasty is a microsurgical procedure where the hole in the ear drum is repaired using a tissue graft. Dr. Anjaneyulu has been performing micro ear surgery since his training at AIIMS, and this is one of the most common ear surgeries done at the hospital. Recovery takes about 2 to 3 weeks.

Mastoidectomy

When a middle ear infection spreads to the mastoid bone behind the ear, or when a cholesteatoma (a skin growth) develops inside the ear, mastoidectomy is needed to clean out the infection and prevent it from reaching the brain. This is a technically demanding surgery that requires experience with temporal bone anatomy. Both ENT surgeons perform this procedure.

Myringotomy and Grommet Insertion

Children with glue ear (fluid trapped behind the ear drum causing hearing loss) and adults with recurrent middle ear effusions benefit from this procedure. A tiny tube (grommet) is placed in the ear drum to allow fluid drainage and equalise pressure. It takes about 15 minutes under short general anaesthesia in children.

Hearing Loss Evaluation

Not all hearing loss needs surgery. Some types respond to medication, hearing aids, or lifestyle changes. Our ENT doctors evaluate the type and degree of hearing loss through clinical examination and audiometry on site, determine whether the loss is conductive, sensorineural, or mixed, and recommend the right course of action. If surgery can help, it happens in the same hospital.

Nose and Sinus Surgery

Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)

Chronic sinusitis that does not respond to antibiotics, nasal sprays, and steam inhalation often needs FESS. A thin endoscope goes through the nostril, and the blocked sinus openings are widened to restore drainage. There are no external cuts. Dr. Anjaneyulu has been performing FESS since his AIIMS days and has also conducted surgical workshops teaching the technique to other ENT surgeons.

Septoplasty (Deviated Septum Correction)

A crooked nasal septum blocks one or both sides of the nose, causes mouth breathing, disturbs sleep, and makes sinus infections worse. Septoplasty straightens the septum through a procedure done entirely inside the nose. No external incisions, no visible changes to the nose shape. Patients typically go home the next day.

Nasal Polyp Removal

Polyps are soft growths inside the nose and sinuses that block breathing and reduce the sense of smell. Small polyps may shrink with steroid sprays, but larger ones need endoscopic removal. The goal is to clear the blockage and keep the polyps from coming back with a combination of surgery and post-operative nasal care.

Endoscopic DCR (Tear Duct Surgery)

When the tear duct between the eye and nose is blocked, the eye constantly waters and can get infected. Endoscopic DCR opens a new drainage path from the tear sac into the nasal cavity, all through the nostril. No cuts on the face. Dr. Anjaneyulu performs this procedure and has conducted workshops on the technique.

Throat, Voice, and Head-Neck Surgery

Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy

Recurrent tonsillitis (more than 5 to 7 episodes a year), enlarged tonsils causing difficulty swallowing or sleep-disordered breathing, and enlarged adenoids in children causing mouth breathing, snoring, and ear problems are treated with surgical removal. These are among the most frequently performed ENT surgeries at the hospital and are done under general anaesthesia with usually one night of hospital stay.

Phonosurgery (Voice Surgery)

Vocal cord nodules, polyps, and cysts cause hoarseness that does not improve with voice rest. Phonosurgery is done under microscopic magnification through the mouth, with no external incisions. Dr. Anjaneyulu trained in phonosurgery at AIIMS, and this is one of his specialist interests. Teachers, singers, lawyers, and call centre professionals are the patients who most commonly need this procedure.

Thyroidectomy

Thyroid swellings, goitres, and thyroid nodules that are suspicious or causing compression symptoms are surgically removed by the ENT team. The surgery requires careful handling to protect the recurrent laryngeal nerve (which controls the voice) and the parathyroid glands. Both surgeons are trained and experienced in thyroid surgery.

Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Assessment

Snoring is not always harmless. If you stop breathing during sleep, wake up gasping, or feel excessively tired during the day, it could be obstructive sleep apnoea. Our ENT doctors examine the nose, palate, tongue base, and throat to identify the level of obstruction and recommend treatment. Options range from lifestyle changes and CPAP to surgical correction depending on the cause.

Head and Neck Tumour Surgery

Lumps in the neck, salivary gland swellings, and tumours of the oral cavity, throat, or larynx need surgical evaluation and often removal. Dr. Anjaneyulu's training at AIIMS included skull base and head-neck surgery, and he handles these cases at Vivekananda Hospital. Coordination with our oncology department is available when cancerous growths need additional treatment after surgery.

Tracheostomy

For patients with severe airway obstruction, whether from a tumour, trauma, or prolonged ICU ventilation, tracheostomy creates a direct opening into the windpipe to allow breathing. This is done as an emergency or planned procedure depending on the situation, and the ENT team coordinates with the ICU for post-operative care.

All ENT diagnostic equipment is available on site at Vivekananda Hospital. This includes nasal endoscopes for examining the nose and sinuses, otoscopes and microscopes for ear examination, audiometry for hearing tests, and tympanometry for middle ear pressure assessment. Patients do not need to visit an outside diagnostic centre for ENT investigations. The examination, diagnosis, and treatment plan happen in a single visit.

Why Choose Us for ENT Care

AIIMS-Trained Senior ENT Surgeon

Dr. Anjaneyulu did not just train at AIIMS New Delhi. He stayed on as faculty there, teaching the next generation of ENT surgeons. He then worked at NIMS, which is the top government super-specialty hospital in Hyderabad. That kind of institutional pedigree, combined with 25+ years of specialist practice, means you are getting the same calibre of ENT care that patients at corporate hospitals receive.

Two ENT Surgeons Available Six Days a Week

Most hospitals in the Begumpet area have one ENT doctor with a 1 to 2 hour OPD slot. Here, you have two ENT surgeons each available in both morning (10 to 1) and evening (5 to 8) slots. That is 12 hours of ENT OPD access per day. Whether you are an office worker who can only come at 7 PM or a parent bringing a child at 10 AM, there is a slot that works.

All ENT Equipment On Site

Nasal endoscopy, ear examination with microscope, audiometry, tympanometry, all done in the same building during the same visit. When a patient with a blocked nose comes in, the ENT doctor can scope the nose, see the septum deviation or polyp on a screen, and explain exactly what is going on. There is no waiting for an appointment at a diagnostic centre.

Diagnosis to Surgery in One Hospital

At a standalone ENT clinic, the doctor diagnoses the problem and then refers you to a hospital for surgery. Here, the same doctor who examined you is the one who operates on you. Your scan, blood work, anaesthesia pre-assessment, and surgery all happen under one roof. This reduces delays, eliminates miscommunication, and keeps costs down.

Paediatric ENT Expertise

Children's ENT problems are different from adults. Enlarged adenoids, recurrent ear infections with glue ear, speech delay from hearing loss, and foreign bodies stuck in ears and noses are common in kids. Both surgeons are experienced in paediatric ENT, and our hospital has a paediatrics department and NICU in the same building for any child who needs additional care.

CGHS and Insurance Cashless

ENT consultations and surgeries like tonsillectomy, septoplasty, FESS, tympanoplasty, and thyroidectomy are available on cashless basis for CGHS, ESI, Arogyabhadratha, and over 25 private insurance company beneficiaries. ENT surgeries are day-care or single-night stay procedures in most cases, keeping the overall cost down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the ENT doctors at Vivekananda Hospital?
Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu is the Senior Consultant ENT Surgeon with MBBS and MS ENT from AIIMS New Delhi. He has over 25 years of specialist experience and was formerly Assistant Professor at AIIMS and Consultant at NIMS Hyderabad. Dr. Abhinav Kiran is the Consultant ENT Surgeon with MBBS and MS ENT and Head and Neck Surgery, and is an AOI member. Both are available Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 1 PM and 5 PM to 8 PM.
Is the ENT doctor trained at AIIMS?
Yes. Dr. Chava Anjaneyulu completed his MS in ENT from AIIMS New Delhi in 1999 and then served as Assistant Professor at AIIMS. This is the highest level of ENT training available in India. His AIIMS background is reflected in the complexity of cases he handles, including skull base surgery, phonosurgery, and advanced endoscopic procedures that most ENT surgeons do not perform.
What ENT surgeries are done here?
Tympanoplasty (ear drum repair), mastoidectomy, myringotomy with grommet insertion, FESS (endoscopic sinus surgery), septoplasty, turbinate reduction, nasal polyp removal, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, microlaryngoscopy, phonosurgery, tracheostomy, thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, endoscopic DCR, head and neck tumour excision, and foreign body removal from the ear, nose, or throat.
Does the hospital have ENT diagnostic equipment?
Yes. All ENT equipment is on site including nasal endoscopes, ear microscopes, otoscopes, audiometry, and tympanometry. You do not need to visit a separate diagnostic centre. The examination, test, and diagnosis happen in the same visit.
What are the ENT OPD timings?
Both doctors are available Monday to Saturday in two slots. Morning: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Evening: 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Call +91 7207904418 to book.
When should I see an ENT specialist instead of a general doctor?
See an ENT specialist if you have hearing loss or ringing in the ears that does not go away, ear discharge or repeated ear infections, nasal blockage lasting more than 2 to 3 weeks, frequent sinus headaches, nosebleeds without an obvious cause, a voice change persisting beyond 2 weeks, difficulty swallowing, snoring with breathing pauses during sleep, a lump in the neck or throat, or if your child has enlarged tonsils or adenoids affecting breathing or eating.
Do you treat children for ENT problems?
Yes. Both ENT surgeons treat children with ear infections, glue ear, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, recurrent throat infections, hearing problems, speech delay related to hearing loss, and foreign bodies stuck in the ear or nose. Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are among the most common paediatric ENT surgeries we perform. Our hospital also has a paediatrics department for coordinated care when needed.
Is ENT treatment available under CGHS?
Yes. Vivekananda Hospital is CGHS empanelled. ENT consultations, audiometry, and surgeries like tonsillectomy, septoplasty, FESS, tympanoplasty, and thyroidectomy are available on cashless basis for CGHS beneficiaries. ESI and over 25 private insurers are also accepted.
My nose is always blocked. Do I need surgery?
Not necessarily. A blocked nose can be caused by a deviated septum, swollen turbinates, nasal polyps, or allergic rhinitis. Some of these respond to nasal sprays and medications. Others need surgery. The ENT doctor will examine your nose with an endoscope, determine the cause, and recommend treatment. Surgery is considered only when medications have not worked or when there is a structural problem like a severely deviated septum that sprays cannot fix.
How do I book an ENT appointment?
Call or WhatsApp +91 7207904418. You can also book through vivekanandahospital.in/book-an-appointment. Both doctors have morning and evening slots six days a week, so availability is usually good even for same-day appointments.
