What the job does to your body

The problems lifting and standing all day cause

These are the complaints we hear most from warehouse and hub workers. None of them are your fault, they come with the work. All of them are treatable, and cheaper to fix early.

Back and shoulder injuryFrom lifting, repeated bending and carrying loads too far from the body.
HerniaA bulge in the groin or belly from heavy or wrong lifting. It will not heal on its own.
Leg pain and varicose veinsFrom standing on a hard floor all shift with little rest.
Heat exhaustionLong hours in a hot warehouse with too little water. Serious if ignored.
Cuts and crush injuriesTo hands and feet from boxes, blades, trolleys and machinery.
Dust and breathingFrom dusty air over long shifts, worse if you already have a chest problem.

You do not have to live on painkillers or wait until a small problem becomes a big one. Get a basic check once a year even when you feel fine, and get any bulge, persistent back pain or breathing trouble looked at early.

Small things that help

Simple habits that protect your body at work

General guidance, not a treatment plan. If pain or a bulge is there, do not wait, see a doctor.

Lift with your legs, keep the load close, do not twist. Bend your knees, hold the box near your body, and turn with your feet, not your waist. Use a trolley for anything heavy and share the lift.
Drink water through the shift, even if you are not thirsty. This is the main defence against heat exhaustion, and it also protects your kidneys.
Get any bulge in the groin or belly checked early. A hernia is common in this work and easy to fix when planned, but dangerous if it gets stuck. Do not wait for it to hurt.
Get one basic health check a year. Blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and eyesight. The free site camp takes ten minutes and catches the silent problems early.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What health problems are common in warehouse workers?

The job causes a predictable set of problems: back and shoulder injury from lifting and repeated bending, hernia from heavy or wrong lifting, leg and foot pain and varicose veins from standing all shift, cuts and crush injuries to hands and feet, heat exhaustion and dehydration in warehouses without cooling, and breathing irritation from dust. Long shifts and irregular meals also push up blood pressure and blood sugar, which stay silent until they turn serious.

Do you offer free health checks at warehouses and dark stores?

Yes. We run free health camps at warehouses, dark stores and logistics hubs, arranged around your shift so it does not stop the line. We check blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, eyesight, back and posture, and hearing in about ten minutes per worker, at no charge. If anything looks off, we call you within two days to explain it. Ask your site or supervisor to arrange one, or message us directly.

I lift all day and my back hurts. What can I do?

Back and shoulder pain from lifting is the most common complaint we hear from warehouse workers. Lift with your legs and keep the load close to your body, avoid twisting while carrying, use a trolley for anything heavy, and share the lift when you can. Do not push through pain that shoots down a leg, comes with numbness, or shows a bulge in the groin or belly, which can be a hernia. If pain is persistent, see a doctor rather than living on painkillers, because early treatment and physiotherapy prevent a long-term problem.

What is a hernia and why do warehouse workers get it?

A hernia is when part of the inside of the body pushes through a weak spot in the muscle wall, often showing as a soft bulge in the groin or belly that comes out on straining and goes back when you lie down. Heavy or wrong lifting is a common trigger, which is why warehouse and loading work raises the risk. It will not heal on its own and can become dangerous if it gets stuck, so get a bulge checked early. Repair is a common, planned procedure and we give the price in writing first.

How do I register and what does it cost?

Registration is free. There is no card to buy, no joining fee and no monthly payment. Call or WhatsApp 7207904418, or register at a camp at your site. Once registered you get a free first consultation, agreed prices in writing before any planned treatment, free accident insurance claim help, and access to the free site camps. Your immediate family is covered by the same registration.

What should I do about a cut or crush injury at work?

For a serious cut, a crush injury, or anything to the eye, come straight to our casualty on Greenlands Road, Begumpet, or call 7207904418 on the way. Treatment starts first and paperwork is handled after. We have a 24 hour casualty and an orthopaedic surgeon on call. For a workplace injury we also help file your insurance or ESI claim. For minor cuts, clean the wound, cover it, and get a tetanus check if your last one was more than five years ago.

It gets very hot in the warehouse. Is that a health risk?

Yes. Working long hours in a hot warehouse without enough water leads to heat exhaustion, and in severe cases heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Drink water regularly through the shift even if you are not thirsty, take breaks in a cooler spot when you can, and watch for dizziness, cramps, a headache or feeling faint. If someone stops sweating, becomes confused or collapses in the heat, treat it as an emergency and call 7207904418.

Which companies is this for?

All of them, and none of them exclusively. This is open to any warehouse, dark store, fulfilment or logistics worker in Hyderabad, whoever you work for. Vivekananda Hospital is an independent hospital and is not connected to or endorsed by any company. Where company types are named, it is only to describe the work our patients do.
