Understanding Cashless

What is Cashless Treatment and How Does It Work?

No upfront payment. No reimbursement hassles. Your insurer pays the hospital directly.

Cashless treatment means you receive medical care at a hospital without paying the treatment cost out of your own pocket. Instead, your health insurance company or government health scheme settles the bill directly with the hospital. You do not need to arrange funds, pay upfront, or go through a lengthy reimbursement process after discharge.

This is different from reimbursement-based treatment, where you pay the entire hospital bill yourself and then submit the bills to your insurer to get the money back weeks or months later. Cashless treatment eliminates that financial burden entirely.

How It Works in Practice

Your insurance company maintains a network of hospitals with a direct billing agreement. When you visit a network hospital, the insurance desk verifies your policy, sends a pre-authorization request to your insurer or TPA, and upon approval, treatment proceeds. At discharge, the approved amount is settled directly between the insurer and the hospital.

You only pay the difference, if any, for items not covered under your policy. The entire process typically takes 2 to 6 hours for planned admissions, and is expedited within 1 to 2 hours for emergencies.
